Dayton To Tour Mines In Michigan, S. Dakota

Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton has planned trips to mines in South Dakota and Michigan as his administration prepares for a major decision on whether to advance copper and nickel mining on the Iron Range. Dayton spokesman Matt Swenson told The Associated Press on Wednesday that the governor will tour the Gilt Edge mine in western South Dakota on Oct. 27 and Eagle Mine in northern Michigan on Oct. 30. Dayton's administration is evaluating environmental issues surrounding the proposed PolyMet mine in northeastern Minnesota.

Minn. Attorney General Goes After Car Donation Foundation

The nation's largest nonprofit for car donations is accused of misleading the public about millions of dollars worth of donations. The Car Donation Foundation is accused of paying $36 million to two corporations owned by the executives who managed the charity between 2011 and 2014.

Minneapolis Police Chief Janeé Harteau is in Washington, D.C. Wednesday as part of the launch of a new bipartisan group called "Women's Coalition for Common Sense." The group was started by former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. She survived after she was shot in the head at a campaign event in Arizona back in 2011. Giffords says gun violence is directly a women's issue.

MN Court Of Appeals: Warrant Needed Before Giving DWI Blood Test

The Minnesota Court of Appeals issued a decision Tuesday declaring that law enforcement must have a warrant before giving a blood test to a suspected impaired driver. The opinion, written by Judge Jill Flaskamp Halbrooks, states that the 2012 subdivision of Minnesota's Driving While Impaired laws that makes it a crime for refusal to submit to a chemical test -- blood, breath or urine -- is unconstitutional.

Wis. Senate Panel OKs Bills To Strip Planned Parenthood Funding

The state Senate's health committee has approved a pair of bills that would strip Planned Parenthood of federal funding and raise its Medicaid expenses. One measure would require the state to apply for $3.5 million in federal Title X grant money, which currently all goes to Planned Parenthood.
