Doctor Found Dead After Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting

Family and friends are in shock after a prominent Twin Cities doctor was gunned down in his home in Orono Friday night. According to the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, police were called to a home on the 1000 block of Heritage Road just before 9 p.m., where they found a man in the front of the property with a handgun. Authorities said shots were exchanged and police killed the man. Law enforcement searched the house and found another man, later identified as Dr. Stephen Larson, dead from an apparent gunshot wound. Larson was a well-known physician who delivered thousands of babies in his career.

Bicyclists Push For 'Cycle Track' On Busy Mpls. Avenue

A group of bicyclists want a protected bike lane on a busy road in Minneapolis. Minnehaha Avenue is set for reconstruction in 2015. Many in the local biking community would like to see a lane that physically separates them from both pedestrians and car traffic – a lane called a "cycle track." For people who bike along Minnehaha, getting from point A to point B is a challenge. Nicole Nafziger knows firsthand how being so close to traffic can make for a scary experience when riding in the bike lane.

Driver In Dinkytown Fatal Hit & Run Ordered To Pay $138K To Victim

A Hennepin County judge has ordered the man sentenced for a fatal hit in run near the University of Minnesota campus to pay more than $138,000 to one of his victims. Peter Riley, the attorney for victim Sarah Bagley, says Judge Phillip Bush ordered Timothy Bakdash Wednesday to pay money to Bagley for medical expenses and pain and suffering compensation. Bagley, along with her friends Ben Van Handel and Katelynn Hanson, were on foot when they were struck by Bakdash, who was driving his car the wrong way on 5th Street Southeast in Dinkytown on April 15, 2011.

Champlin Woman Pleads Guilty To Stealing $50K From PTO

A Champlin woman pleaded guilty Friday to the charge of theft by swindle over $35,000 after being accused of taking money from a Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) fund. According to the Hennepin County Attorney's office, 31-year-old Melissa O'Brien was the treasurer of Oxbow Elementary School's PTO from September to December of 2012. In these months, O'Brien stole more than $50,000 by withdrawing cash, writing checks to herself and family members and setting up direct payments to her creditors.
