We just wrapped up our driest October in recorded history. The lack of rain has also been a factor in the outbreak of wildfires. The New Jersey Forest Fire Service is trying to contain the so-called “Halloween Fire" burning in Downe Township, Cumberland County. It has spread to 120 acres and is about 75% contained at this time. The cause of the Halloween Fire remains under investigation.
Dry conditions in our area continue to spurn wildfires including this one in Cumberland County. The fire started on Halloween and has scorched 110 acres so far. The fire burned in the area of Railroad Avenue between Creek and Ackley roads in Downe Township. Ryan Hughes is tracking the effort to contain the flames.
A wildfire that burned 40 acres Evesham Township, Burlington County, is 90% contained.
The fire comes as much of the Philadelphia region is under a moderate to severe drought.
