Officials launch new mobile health clinic to serve Burlington County, New Jersey
A ribbon-cutting ceremony launched a new health clinic on wheels in Burlington County, New Jersey, on Thursday.
"The mobile unit represents innovation and action," Dr. David Spang with Rowan College at Burlington County said, "bringing essential health screenings and services to where people are, removing barriers and expanding access."
The launch happened at Rowan College at Burlington County during its Spring into Good Health fair.
"We'll be able to do vaccinations, blood pressure screenings, Narcan training," Burlington County Health Department Director Dr. Holly Cucuzzella said. "We'll be able to do HIV and STD testing. People have a hard time making appointments and getting to appointments, and by us going into the community, we become more readily accessible to people seeking services in a timely manner."
Officials demonstrated inside the van some of the services, such as blood pressure screenings.
"We have two exam rooms — one here that will allow us to do full exams, vaccines, screenings, everything we need," Cucuzzella said.
Officials said access is an issue for many in Burlington County, home to almost half a million residents.
"The health center on this vehicle comes to them," Congressman Herb Conaway said. "The health services provided at the health center can be brought to them."
Health services will be provided to anyone, including people with no insurance.
"These are not just services," Cucuzzella said. "They are opportunities for prevention, early detection and in many cases life-saving intervention."
