A driver is hospitalized after a car is struck by a Metra train in unincorporated Woodstock early Saturday morning.
Initial reports say a 2010 White Nissan SUV was traveling eastbound on Dempster approaching Austin when the rear passenger fell out of the vehicle onto the roadway.
The pickup truck caught fire and the driver was taken to an area hospital.
Initial reports say for unknown reasons the vehicle left the roadway to the right and struck an embankment.
The crash happened on the 7900 block of South Halsted Street.
Witnesses reported the driver appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed when, for an unknown reason, crossed into the northbound lanes of traffic and drove off the roadway, into the ditch line on the east side of the roadway.
ISP said it happened around 8:17 a.m. at I-88 westbound, west of I-294 York Road.
A man was inside a vehicle when three unknown suspects exited from another vehicle and began firing shots in his direction.
