House Republicans finally elected Mike Johnson to be House speaker, over three weeks after the ouster of Kevin McCarthy. Here's the list of GOP candidates who ran.
Rep. Mike Johnson is the fourth speaker nominee since McCarthy's removal and the second in a single day. He said that his intention is to go the House floor Wednesday for a noon speaker vote.
The House Republican Conference voted that Jordan should drop his bid in a closed-door meeting following an earlier vote on the House floor.
"I'm still running for speaker and I plan to go to the floor and get the votes and win this race," Rep. Jim Jordan said Thursday.
All total, 22 Republicans voted against Rep. Jim Jordan on the second ballot.
