Toyota said the batteries in some of the small SUVs can shift during forceful turns, causing a short circuit.
The cars' fuel tubes could rub against a brake line, causing a fuel leak, the company said.
The vehicles include trucks, SUVs, minivans and cars across the model lineups of Toyota and its Lexus luxury vehicle brand.
Toyota will notify owners by mail starting in mid-March. The company doesn't have a fix yet but will tell owners when one is ready.
