Jones Beach Among 4 New York State Parks To Get Free Wi-Fi

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Free public wireless Internet is now available at four of New York's most popular state parks.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo's office said Wednesday that the Wi-Fi service is available at Jones Beach, Niagara Falls, Saratoga Spa and East River state parks.

"By launching Wi-Fi access at these flagship locations we're making it easier than ever for visitors to take in everything they offer," Cuomo said in a statement.

State Parks Commissioner Rose Harvey said wireless Internet access is a part of the state's commitment to modernizing its park system.

"Whether using Wi-Fi to share real-time photos of friends and family exploring our parks, or accessing apps and maps, having the option to take advantage of this technology is a great way to draw more people to spend their precious leisure time at our parks," Harvey said in a statement.

The program is being supported by the American Park Network and Toyota.

The four parks selected for the service are some of the state's most popular public attractions, with more than 18 million visitors each year.

The state said it may consider expanding the free Wi-Fi to other parks in the future.
