The district said the closures are due to "widespread storm impacts, including power outages and damage."
The closing of both schools can cause issues for seniors, including pushing back their graduations.
The schools will continue to run normally throughout the remainder of the academic year.
According to the Superintendent of Schools, Greg Richmond, low enrollment and ongoing deficits led to the decision to close the schools after months of discussion.
Chicago temperatures plunged well below zero Friday morning, with some places feeling as cold as -40 degrees. While an Extreme Cold Warning has expired, a Cold Weather Advisory is in effect until Saturday morning.
