The two shootings happened blocks and moments apart.
The boy, 17, was struck by gunfire after firing a handgun, police said.
The victim was shot in the head and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition.
The officer shot in the head during a traffic stop in West Englewood is out of the ICU and is showing progress, according to her family.
