In his first address since taking office, Mayor Eric Adams outlined his vision to get COVID under control and fix "dysfunctional" city government.
In addition to responding to a police officer who was shot, he rode the subway to work, called 911 to report a crime and told New Yorkers that his first 100 days will be dedicated to something he called "GSD" -- getting stuff done.
A $10,000 reward is being offered for information that can help lead to an arrest.
Adams held a picture of his mother and used his family's bible to take the oath of office with other family members by his side in Times Square.
Friday at Gracie Mansion, crews were seen carrying out boxes belonging to Mayor Bill de Blasio.
On the final day of 2021, Times Square is reminiscent of 2020 as the city prepares for a smaller New Year's Eve celebration.
Adams, who officially becomes mayor Saturday, said the city is at a critical moment in the fight against the pandemic.
Adams will be sworn in as the 110th Mayor of New York City by the city clerk, and said he will use his family's Bible to take the oath of office.
These new appointees will report to Adams' chief counsel.
More than half of those incarcerated are unvaccinated, putting them at severe risk as the Omicron variant spreads.
"Our administration is assembling a team of seasoned public servants who are battle-tested and ready to get to work on behalf of the people of this city," Adams said.
Meanwhile, Adams tapped Dr. Ashwin Vasan to be the city's next health commissioner.
