According to Chicago police, the victim, a 20-year-old man, was approached by an unknown male who produced a handgun, demanded his property, and shot him.
No one was hurt, but at least one business in the West Loop had to close for the day.
Police said there have been five similar robberies since early February in the 5100 block of West Washington Boulevard.
Police say a man would use the online selling platform to either sell or buy cell phones.
The incidents all happened within a few blocks of each other in the South Shore neighborhood.

The robbers took the victim's property and drove off in his car, police said.
The man exited his car outside the Kingsbury Plaza luxury high-rise apartment building, at Grand Avenue and Kingsbury Street, when two men came up and demanded his property at gunpoint.

In two of the incidents, the robbers demand the PIN or password from the victims for their phones to be unlocked and then take a photo of said PIN or password with another phone.
The robberies happened on Sunday between 6:30 and 7:30 a.m. in the Logan Square and Belmont Cragin neighborhoods.
In each incident, three or four offenders would exit a 2016 Black Infiniti G37 sedan, approach the victims, threaten with a handgun, and take personal property.
The brazen thieves were even caught on surveillance video, smashing a car into one business to break in.
The teen was arrested on Friday, in the 6500 block of South Racine Avenue, and charged with two felony counts of armed robbery.
