Officers found the victim, only described as a 33-year-old man, on the floor of the residence with an apparent stab wound to his stomach.
Chicago police said the victim was arguing with another unknown man on the train that turned into a fight. During this, the offender pulled out a sharp object and swung it at the victim.
The FBI said 42-year-old Arnoldo Jimenez was arrested in Monterrey, Mexico, on Thursday, and is awaiting extradition to the U.S.
The victims were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where they were both listed in serious condition.
The victim told officers that a woman pulled out a sharp object and stabbed him in the head before leaving the scene.
