The deal between Epstein and Virginia Roberts, now known as Virginia Giuffre, contained a paragraph that said it protects anyone "who could have been included as a potential defendant" from being sued by Giuffre.
Giuffre claims the British royal sexually assaulted her when she was 17 years old.
Maxwell, who lived for years with Epstein and was his frequent travel companion on trips around the world, was taken into custody around 8:30 a.m., said FBI spokesman Marty Feely.
The request is being made under a treaty only used in criminal cases.
