According to police, Brian Harrington told the clerks at Rafael's in Hewlett and Gulgattie Jewelry at the Tri Count Flea Market in Levittown that he was a police officer who lost his debit card, so the clerks let him write out checks totaling more than $5,200.
It happened around 10 p.m. on Dartmouth Street in Hempstead.
