The 30th annual Swim Across America Chicago was held at Ohio Street Beach.
The Wilmette police and fire departments responded to Gillson Park for a report of a body in the water a little after 5 p.m.
First responders pulled the body of a 56-year-old man from Lake Michigan in north suburban Wilmette on Wednesday evening.

The victim was pulled to shore by the Chicago Fire Department dive teams.
CFD and relatives have identified him as 43-year-old Wilbert Hayes, who had been with the department since 2009.
