The shooting happened in the southbound lanes near Halsted just before 9 p.m. night.
Illinois State Police said troopers responded to of a single-car crash involving a vehicle that ran off the roadway.
Lane closures will be taking effect on southbound Interstate 57 – beginning Thursday night.
The lane closures are set to last three nights. All lanes are set to reopen by 5 a.m. each morning.
Initial reports say troopers responded to the crash involving six cars and a dump truck.
The crash happened around 7:11 a.m. in the northbound lanes at 107th Street.
The fire erupted and grew in severity – prompting firefighters to go down onto the expressway with hand lines.
