Illinois State Police said troopers responded to of a single-car crash involving a vehicle that ran off the roadway.
Lane closures will be taking effect on southbound Interstate 57 – beginning Thursday night.
The lane closures are set to last three nights. All lanes are set to reopen by 5 a.m. each morning.
Initial reports say troopers responded to the crash involving six cars and a dump truck.
The crash happened around 7:11 a.m. in the northbound lanes at 107th Street.
The fire erupted and grew in severity – prompting firefighters to go down onto the expressway with hand lines.

A medical helicopter took one person to an area hospital with serious injuries.
Illinois State Police reported the gunfire during the Monday afternoon rush.
It was not clear if anything was damaged by the gunfire.
