Key tests in primaries in several states

Voters in five states are heading to the polls for primaries Tuesday, but the key race to watch is in the battleground state of Georgia, where Republican Gov. Brian Kemp is opposing Trump-endorsed former Sen. David Perdue. There are also critical Republican primaries in Alabama and tests for both progressives and the Bush political dynasty in Texas. Starbucks is closing all its stores in Russia over Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine. And New York City's last remaining pay phone has been removed. It next heads to a museum.

Jetliner catches fire after landing in Miami

The NTSB will investigate after a Red Air flight caught fire when it landed at Miami International Airport. Officials say the landing gear collapsed. Three of the 126 on board were hurt, none seriously. A Los Angeles County jury has found that Bill Cosby sexually abused a 16-year-old girl in 1975 at the playboy mansion. The jury awarded Judy Huth $500,000. And Yellowstone National Park is partially reopening today after last week’s record flooding.

U.S. helping Ukraine target Russian generals?

The National Security Council pushes back against a New York Times report saying the U.S. provides intelligence that’s helping Ukraine kill Russia’s battlefield commanders. Amber Heard takes the stand for the first time in ex-husband Johnny Depp's libel lawsuit against her. And, Pat Benatar and Lionel Ritchie are among the latest inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, along with Dolly Parton, who initially declined the honor.

Ukrainian forces still holed-up in steelworks

A Ukrainian military official is pleading for help from the international community to get wounded military members out of a besieged steel plant in Mariupol after all civilians were successfully rescued. Police in Maine are investigating after two people were hit and killed by an Amtrak train. And the graduating class at Wiley College is debt free after an anonymous donor paid the student's loan balances ahead of their commencement. The historically Black college in Texas is notably the real-life inspiration for the film “The Great Debaters.”

Burn pits bill vote expected in Senate

The Senate is expected to vote on the so-called Burn Pits Bill that would expand health care and benefits for millions of veterans exposed to toxic burn pits while serving in Afghanistan and Iraq. The measure’s been stalled by Republicans. A judge is expected to rule on the discipline case involving Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson in light of more than two dozen sexual misconduct allegations. And the animated “DC League of Super-Pets” barked its way to the top of the weekend box office.

Manchin, Schumer reach deal on health, energy

Sen. Joe Manchin and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer say they've reached a deal on health care, energy and tax legislation, with a vote expected next week. After weeks of delays and growing criticism against the federal government, health officials say about 800,000 doses of the monkeypox vaccine will soon be available to go to hard-hit areas. And they've been doing it for a while, and now, “Jeopardy!” says Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings will split hosting duties for good.

Russia intensifies assault on eastern Ukraine

Russian troops have stepped up their assault on eastern Ukraine. European officials fear the key port city of Mariupol could fall in days. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is calling on state lawmakers to strip Disney World of its status letting it operate as an independent government around its theme parks, as their feud over the state’s “Don’t Say Gay” law heats up. And Major League Baseball may implement a pitch clock after a new report showed it shaved 20 minutes off minor league games.
