Chicago police said a group of unknown people, driving a silver Hyundai four-door sedan, forcibly entered businesses by smashing either a window or the front glass door. Once inside, they stole cash from the registers.
Authorities said he walked in, displayed a handgun, and demanded money.
FBI and local police say they responded to an incident at a Huntington Bank at Fullerton and Southport in Lakeview. A few hours later, the Fifth Third Bank at Broadway and Thorndale in Edgewater.
The victim was unable to provide any details about the shooting, but preliminary investigation indicated that someone inside a vehicle shot him.
A student, Yareli Urena, told CBS News she was at her locker when she heard students running into the building. While she said at first the news sounded like it could have been a "joke," she quickly learned someone had, in fact, been shot. "We all got so scared," Urena said.
