Metra officials confirmed a male pedestrian was hit and killed by an inbound Union Pacific North Line train near the North Chicago station shortly after 8:30 a.m.
The condition of the person in the car was not immediately learned.
It's part of a multiyear, multimillion-dollar plan to reconstruct numerous stations on the line, including making them accessible to persons with disabilities.
The new 79th Street Chatham station on the Metra Electric Line reopens Monday after being closed for over a year for renovations.
