Pro-Palestinian groups on Monday called out Chicago leaders for denying their applications to protest outside the Democratic National Convention in August.
Mayor Brandon Johnson said he also welcomed protesters planning to exercise their First Amendment rights outside the convention. CBS 2's Sabrina Franza reports.
The U.S. Secret Service will speak on those protocols at 2 p.m.
Protesters are already planning to be near the United Center during the convention.
The DNC compiled a list of more than 1,700 businesses and venues across the city. The organization said more than 70% of the businesses identify as diverse.
When 50,000 people descend on Chicago for the Democratic National Convention this August, organizers will have some recommendations. They've put together a list of vendors, including businesses well beyond the Loop and in all corners of the city. Business owners on the list hope for a boost ahead of the convention.
It was due to a technicality after the City of Chicago failed to respond to a permit application from a group called The Poor People's Army within its own 10-day deadline, according to the Sun-Times.
