Chicago police are asking for the public's help in identifying two suspects in connection to a homicide in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood earlier this month.
The Chicago Police Department is short around 1,500 officers right now, and concerns about officer burnout and staffing levels remain as the 4th of July weekend has typically been associated with increased gun violence.
Since the pandemic, overtime is being used more so to plug staffing shortages as officers retired and resigned in record numbers in Chicago and across the country. CBS 2's Tara Molina reports.
The woman who had been in the water was taken to the hospital, where she is expected to recover.
So far, no one has been arrested.
"I mean it's great that this is finally happening, but I just wish it was not the case for my family and so many others," said Julia Troglia, whose husband, CPD officer Jeff Troglia, died by suicide in 2021.
