Simpson Says He's Sorry; Status With Vikes Unclear

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jerome Simpson says he's sorry for the negative attention brought to the organization over the weekend after his arrest on suspicion of drunken driving. Simpson took part with the team in a light practice on Monday. The Vikings play at Seattle this Sunday, and Simpson said he expects to participate. But coach Leslie Frazier spoke in uncertain terms about Simpson's availability against the Seahawks and beyond. The NFL suspended him for three games last year for violating the league's substance abuse policy, and his case has again been placed under review by the league.

Ponder Will Start For Vikings Against Packers

Christian Ponder will start at quarterback for Minnesota against Green Bay on Sunday night, while Josh Freeman will be inactive after being cleared to practice. Next week's as-the-quarterback-carousel-turns episode has not been written yet, but the Vikings have their guy for the Packers game. Coach Leslie Frazier confirmed after practice on Friday that Ponder will start against the Vikings' bitter rival. Freeman reported concussion-like symptoms the day after his rough performance Monday night in a loss to the New York Giants. He passed the NFL's required tests and went through part of the workout with the Vikings on Friday, but this was too late in the week for him to catch up with the game plan and get ready to play.

Giants Get 1st Win, Beat Sloppy Vikings 23-7

At last. The New York Giants got their first win of the season Monday night by holding Adrian Peterson in check and converting Minnesota mistakes into a 23-7 victory. The Giants began the season with six losses in which they were the team turning over the ball (minus-16 difference) while showing little penchant for playing defense. But against the Vikings (1-5), they were efficient enough, if not overwhelming, and had three takeaways to one lost fumble. Peterson, the league's MVP last season and a 2,000-yard rusher, was held to 28 yards five days after his 2-year-old son was buried in South Dakota. The man accused in the death was indicted on second-degree murder and manslaughter charges, prosecutors said Monday.

Vikes Reeling But Frazier 'Certain' Of Improvement

The Minnesota Vikings are a mess. They've allowed 31.6 points per game, third most in the league. The offense has plenty of problems, too, as evidenced by the two interceptions and four punts on nine possessions in a lopsided loss to Carolina. Still, coach Leslie Frazier says he believes the Vikings have the right players on the roster to improve, and he's certain that will happen. The Vikings (1-4) play the winless New York Giants (0-6) this week.

Vikings Stadium Negotiations Postponed Again

As some senior level Vikings officials spend time in London, there are questions here at home about the future of the new Vikings stadium. Groundbreaking is scheduled for November, but final negotiations about developments and the stadium lease have been postponed Friday until next week. This is the second time final deals have been delayed. The Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority (MSFA) has now pushed back their final urgent deadlines for negotiations twice. The team says they will be locked into this lease for 30 years so that's why they are taking their time.

Reality Check: Cost of The New Vikings Stadium

Minnesota is preparing to sell nearly $500 million in bonds to cover the state's share of the Vikings stadium facility. It's looking for financial institutions to buy the bonds for the stadium construction, which is scheduled to start in November. The $498 million in loans will cover the State's and the Minneapolis' share of stadium construction. The Vikings are putting up the rest of the $477 million for the project, which will total $975 million.

Ellison Out For Vikings Vs Browns

The Minnesota Vikings will be without fullback Rhett Ellison when they play the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. Ellison was listed as out for the game because of a knee injury that sidelined him from practice all week. The Vikings are already missing starting fullback Jerome Felton, who is serving the final game of a three-game suspension stemming from a DUI arrest two years ago. Coach Leslie Frazier says the Vikings will lean on rookie Zach Line and veteran tight end John Carlson. Line is a converted running back still learning the position.
