It's state tournament time for high school baseball, and in Delano they have a player to watch. In fact, Toby Hanson is a player to watch all year long, as he plays basketball in the winter and football in the fall.
Sports provide many opportunities. For some, it's the opportunity to teach. Kids are more apt to listen and learn if they are studying something they are interested in. One Minnetonka sixth grade teacher found a tool to do just that, the new Minnesota Vikings stadium.
After a cold, rainy spring, this week brought welcome relief. As such, the stories about rained-out games and busy, demanding schedules are a thing of the past. We've got highlights, and great stories.
Blaine High School's Caleb Butler can run. In fact, he can do just about anything he sets his mind to. That's what makes him special, according to Coach Rob Nick. "He's a coach's dream. He does everything we ask of him, his effort is always outstanding, he gives us 100 percent," Nick said. "He's just an amazing athlete. His strength is unbelievable, and for a kid to be 6'3', 220 and to run 110 hurdles. He ran 300 hurdles, shot disc, he's going to run a 4X1 for us."
Beating the Texas Rangers and any other team requires the development of young hitters. That's Tom Brunansky's job. He's former Twin turned hitting coach, and he has his hands full.

"Yeah, warming up in the bullpen [was] an amazing experience."
Sid Hartman has graced this humble Earth for 94 years. He has been scribbling for the Star Tribune for 69 of those years and has held court on the airwaves of WCCO Radio for 59. This Sunday, the Minnesota Twins - who've been in this state a mere 53 years – will honor those astounding numbers, and the singular character who owns them, with "Sid Hartman Day" at Target Field.

Sheila Hirsch and lacrosse is a combination that has worked well for her and her Edina High School team. "I love playing lacrosse. I love playing it with my school and my summer lacrosse team, mainly because I love my teammates," Hirsch said. "Really, it's what makes the sport as great as it is."

"I think with their personal … there's more shots that become dangerous. They don't always have to be odd-man rushes or back-door plays or stuff like that – they've got a lot of skill in their lineup," Ballard said.
The Minnesota Wild are at a point where they are counting on the home ice carrying them. "That's the plan. We know in the first round we played pretty well here and we're excited to play here. But, you know, that doesn't guarantee much," said forward Zach Parise.
Zach Moore did not grow up in affluence and when he signed on to play at Concordia University in St. Paul, the NFL seemed light years away. Moore grew up on the south side of Chicago. "The south side of Chicago is notorious. You know you hear about a lot of the shootings and deaths, and, you know, the gang mentality that's associated with it," Moore said.
Ra'shede Hageman was a star at Minneapolis' Washburn High School in two sports: football and basketball. His story includes life in foster homes before being adopted. He's grown into a man ready for the NFL. "I'm thankful but, you know, I'm always remaining hungry. I'm just, you know, getting a step ahead of my competition, but I'm always humble," Hageman said.
His name is difficult to pronounce, but it's sure been muttered a lot the last couple days. That's what happens when you score a game winner in Game 7.
