Former Prep Star Has WNBA Career On Hold – For Baby
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – It wasn't that long ago that Tayler Hill was a household name in Minnesota girls high school basketball.
She was the best player in the state for most of her prep career at Minneapolis South, and she took her talents to Ohio State University. Hill eventually became a first-round draft pick by the Washington Mystics in the WNBA. But after one season as a professional, her basketball career is on hold right now. That's because she's about to become a mother.
"High school basketball was fun. We just had a lot of fun on our team," Hill said.
It was at Ohio State that she met her brother's teammate and roommate, David Lighty. He was a Big Ten standout on the men's team for the Buckeyes who played his way to a professional career in Europe. He'll be at the NBA Summer League.
Hill was planning on continuing her WNBA career this season, until she found out she was pregnant.
"It was a surprise, but we were ready for it," Hill said.
She's now spending her time watching two younger siblings play and getting ready to be a mother. It's reminding her that she wants to get back out on the court next season.
"Right now just to get back in the gym is the main thing. I want to play for the next few years," Hill said. "This break has shown me how much I really love the game of basketball and how much it really means to me."
