As of Wednesday, the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
The crash happened around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 4, on northbound I-294 north of Golf Road in Des Plaines.
The crash on June 7, 2024, killed 76-year-old Bernice Pawilan. The driver had a history of traffic offenses, and, in fact, wasn't supposed to be on the road at all.
CBS News Chicago found that the Wisconsin driver had already been labeled a habitual traffic offender after three drunk driving convictions in 2007 and 2008, plus two cases of trying to flee police.
