"There's no reason that there should be a feeling danger looming at any event that should be safe for a family," Laura Chaimson said.
"At this time, the doctors do not believe that he suffered any brain damage or cognitive impact from the shooting," a family spokesperson said.
She designed yard signs that read "This Home is For: Background checks on all gun sales, banning assault rifles, and gun safety and safe storage."
Eduardo Uvaldo, 69, of Waukegan, was identified as the seventh person shot and killed in the massacre.
"When we needed the friends on the North Shore, they came. And now they need us. We're going to return the favor. Because now they've been touched by what we live every single day."
"If the state doesn't press charges, then they're admitting that the whole statute is a sham," said attorney Stephan Blandin.
"We considered everyone who was there on 4th of July a hero just for running and grabbing their children, and doing what they could to stay safe," said Lindsay Meltzer, co-owner of Bright Bowls smoothie shop, where roughly 100 people took shelter after the shooting.
The parade route is still the scene of an investigation as police and FBI continue to comb through the area for evidence.
"Everyone here knows what's going on. Everyone here wants to talk about the same thing."
