A July 4th gathering in West Englewood ended with a barrage of bullets and one person dead overnight. Five others were injured. Evidence markers littered the street near 56th and Ada after the pre-dawn shooting. In all, police tell CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot that at least 200 shots were fired.
"One year ago we were shaken to our core," said Mayor Nancy Rotering.
Today, a step towards hope and healing in Highland Park, where the community marked one year since a mass shooting that killed 7 people and hurt dozens more during their Independence Day parade.
