Hundreds of people are marching on Capitol Hill to demand new efforts to stop gun violence, among them mothers still reeling from last week's deadly mass shooting in Highland Park.

"There is no reason a citizen needs to be walking the streets with a weapon of war," said Emily Lieberman.

The U.S. Census shows in 2020, Highland Park's population was more than 30,000. More than 3,300 were Hispanics.

The Highland Park Community Foundation has established a fund to help those affected by the of the July 4th parade massacre. Foundation Executive Committee Chair Betsy Brint joins CBS 2's Joe Donlon and Irika Sargent in Highland Park.
All contributions to the fund will go directly to victims, survivors, and organization who support them.
As Highland Park remains in shock and grief following the massacre a week ago at the July 4th parade, support is pouring in from other communities.
"I think coming together to think about how we can heal through action could create a larger coalition."
"This is a community that has really supported our small business over the years and so we wanted to find a way to give back. And that was our way of giving back."
Organizers said they expect more than 500 people to travel to D.C. for the march this week.
