The Garland Police Department said the shooting happened in the area of Broadway Boulevard and Colonel Drive.
Investigators are now working to determine who was behind the wheel in last Saturday's crash.
The department said it believes two groups of people met at Watson Park, and at some point, gunfire erupted.
Authorities are urging witnesses and drivers with dashcam footage to come forward as investigators work to identify the truck involved.
First responders located the 5-year-old and immediately began lifesaving measures, taking over for family members. The child was transported to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, police confirmed.
The victim's name has not yet been released.
