Hit‑and‑run driver wanted after 12‑year‑old seriously injured in Garland crosswalk crash, police say

Authorities are searching for the driver of a white utility‑style work truck that struck and seriously injured a 12‑year‑old boy on an electric scooter in a Garland crosswalk before fleeing.

The hit‑and‑run occurred around 8:30 a.m. Saturday at North Garland Avenue and Apollo Road, according to the Garland Police Department.

The child is in stable condition but sustained significant injuries, police said.

Police described the suspect's vehicle as a white utility‑style work truck with four doors and side storage compartments. The driver was described as a heavy‑set male with a short buzz‑cut hairstyle.

The driver briefly stopped after the crash, then fled south on North Garland Avenue, police said.

Garland police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash, saw the truck nearby, or has dashcam footage from around that time to call 972‑485‑4840.

"Even a small piece of information or video could be important in helping us with this investigation," Garland police spokesman Matt Pesta said in a news release.

The department is also asking the truck's driver to come forward.

"We want to hear from you and give you the opportunity to provide your side of what happened," Pesta said.

Authorities said the truck traveled east on Apollo Road before turning south onto North Garland Avenue.

"If you were driving in or around this area at approximately 8:30 a.m., we ask that you review your dashcam footage to see if you may have captured the truck before or after the crash," Pesta said.
