Teen, man wounded after shooting at Garland park, police say

The Garland Police Department is investigating a shooting that left two people wounded Sunday night. One of the victims is 17 years old.

Police said it happened just after 8 p.m. at Watson Park, located along the 3900 block of Lawler Road. Officers said they arrived and found the teen suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The victim was hospitalized and remains in stable condition as of publication.

Shortly after, Garland Police said officers got another call about a 20-year-old male suffering from apparent gunshot wounds on a nearby street. That victim was also hospitalized and, as of publication, is also in stable condition.

Investigators said they believe two groups of people met at Watson Park for reasons still being determined by the investigation. At some point during the meeting, police said gunfire from one group erupted into another. Police believe the person or persons responsible for the shooting left the area somehow, though it is not known how they left.

The investigation is ongoing. Garland Police said it believes the incident is isolated and is now working to identify and locate those responsible for the shooting.
