"You've undermined your own quarterback," Francesa told Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum. "Maybe he's even told you this, but he's got to detest this. No one else yanks their quarterback out of the game!"
Given the events of this past week, where an unnamed Jets player called Tim Tebow "terrible" in a tabloid report, there is no good way for the situation to play out under center in this Sunday's game in St. Louis.
"We're not buying all this spin that is coming out right now," the player said. "And we're not necessarily buying that the quote came out recently or even from this locker room."
Mark Sanchez is still the Jets' franchise quarterback despite being mired in one of the worst slumps of his career. Tim Tebow, however, is still the team's most talked-about quarterback.
In light of the Jets' struggles this season, you can bet Rams offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer and tackle Wayne Hunter haven't stopped laughing.
"The record says what's going on," Johnson said during practice. "We're a 3-6 team. Are we happy? Are they happy? Are the players happy? I know the fans aren't happy. The answer is no. We're not happy. We're not happy with 3-6."
The Jets knew what they were getting themselves into, and now they have no one to blame but themselves for a season splintering apart. They should have known better.
Why would anyone care what a dozen losers think about a winner? We don't know who they are, but I do know that they aren't half the men that Tebow is.
Like I told Tim Tebow back in April, Jacksonville would have been such a better fit!
"I said nothing about Tebow needs to be a starting quarterback," running back Shonn Greene told the media on Thursday.
You watched the Jets stumble and bumble for nine games and you just wondered when it had to start -- the backbiting, the anonymous grumbles from within. It happens with all losers.
"I can control my attitude, my effort and my work ethic," said Tebow. "Those are things that will never change based on what anybody says."
Perhaps if all the players -- anonymous or otherwise -- worked as hard as Tebow, then the Jets wouldn't be 3-6. To bash him for doing his job is beyond comprehension. And that is the great tragedy of this story.
Sure, Mark Sanchez has taken his fair share of lumps. But you could argue the Tebow talk has been just as bad, if not worse -- and now it's coming straight from the Jets' locker room.
