Andrew Rohkohl says he's been working at being a goalie since he was a little kid. "It's been a dream, really," Rohkohl said. "And it takes a lot of effort to get to this place." He has become a part of the nucleus of a team that leans on veterans, according to Edina hockey coach and former NHL defensemen Curt Giles. "He's a smart kid," Giles said. "The thing with him is he fits in perfectly. I mean, we got a good class of seniors with good leadership."

Wild Players To Wear Camouflage Jerseys Saturday

Minnesota Wild players will wear camouflage jerseys during pre-game warm-ups Saturday when the team hosts the Colorado Avalanche. The player-autographed camouflage jerseys will then be auctioned off online to benefit the Minnesota Wild Foundation and Defending The Blue Line.

Memorial Hockey Tourney To Be Held For Edina Boy

The life of an Edina boy is being remembered through the sport he loved best. Eight-year-old Quinn Kirsch died from a heart condition one year ago this week. He was the youngest of four brothers. Quinn loved his Irish heritage and ice hockey. When Quinn was two, doctors detected a hole in his heart and a pacemaker was implanted.

Granlund, Koivu Named To Finnish Olympic Team

As many as five Minnesota Wild players will play for their native countries in the Winter Olympics next month. Forwards Mikael Granlund and Mikko Koivu were named Tuesday to Finland's roster. Koivu's participation is in question because of a broken ankle he suffered Saturday and had surgery to fix Monday.

Suter Scores 3 In Wild's 5-3 Win Over Capitals

Ryan Suter scored three goals, and the Minnesota Wild beat the Washington Capitals 5-3 on Saturday night. Suter completed the first hat trick by a Wild defenseman with 12:23 to play in the third and giving the Wild a two-goal lead. He jumped into the play straight out of the penalty box to create a 2-on-1 with Clayton Stoner, then beat Braden Holtby from the left faceoff circle off Stoner's feed. The Wild won despite being outshot 30-11. Their previous season low for shots in a game was 13 in a 3-1 win over San Jose on Dec. 8. Minnesota has won two straight after snapping a franchise-record six-game losing streak on Thursday.

With Harding Ill, Wild Call Up Backup Goalie

The Minnesota Wild have recalled goalie Darcy Kuemper from their AHL affiliate. Coach Mike Yeo says Josh Harding was ill and didn't take part in the pre-game skate on Thursday morning. Niklas Backstrom was announced as the starter against Buffalo for the game Thursday night.

Five members or former members of the University of Minnesota women's hockey team will be heading to Sochi in Russia for the 2014 Winter Olympics. Among those who were named to the team was forward Amanda Kessel, who was named NCAA player of the year.

US Women Beat Canada 3-2 In Pre-Olympic Match In St. Paul

Hilary Knight scored the lone shootout goal and the United States women's hockey team beat Canada 3-2 on Saturday in a pre-Olympic exhibition game. Jessie Vetter stopped all three Canadian shootout attempts. Kelli Stack and Alex Carpenter scored for the United States in regulation, and Meghan Acosta-Marciano and Marie-Philip Poulin countered for Canada. Canada rallied to tie it in the third period.

Wild Put Ailing Parise On IR With Bruised Foot

The Minnesota Wild have placed left wing Zach Parise on injured reserve because of a bruised foot. The move was made Saturday. The Wild recalled goalie Johan Gustafsson from Iowa of the AHL to take Parise's spot on the active roster, but Parise can be taken off injured reserve at any time. Parise has 15 goals and 12 assists in 37 games. He was hurt Nov. 25 at St. Louis and held out of the next game before returning to the ice four days later.

Simmonds Leads Flyers To 4-1 Win Over Wild

Wayne Simmonds had two goals and an assist to lead the Philadelphia Flyers to a 4-1 win over the Minnesota Wild on Monday night, extending their home win streak to nine games. Luke Schenn and Claude Giroux also scored for the Flyers, whose record rose above .500 for just the second time this season (17-16-4). Mikael Grandlund tallied for the Wild, who fell to 2-7-0 all-time at the Wells Fargo Center. The Wild are 1-7-1 in their last nine road games. Both teams are off until Friday.

St. Paul's Johnson High Celebrates 100 Years Of Hockey

Since 1913, hockey players in St. Paul have been proudly putting on a jersey with the name "Johnson" stitched onto the front. Saturday, current and alumni players from Johnson High School laced up their skates to celebrate the program's longevity. Johnson has gone to 22 state tournaments, winning four of them. One of the school's most notable graduates is hockey legend Herb Brooks, who coached the 1980 "Miracle on Ice" Olympic hockey team.

Wild Rally To Beat Avs 2-1 In Shootout

Mikko Koivu scored the winner in the shootout and Josh Harding made two glove saves, helping the Minnesota Wild rally for a 2-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday night. Koivu beat Semyon Varlamov with a shot just under the crossbar. Zach Parise also scored for the Wild in the shootout. Matt Duchene had a shootout goal for the Avs, but Harding then stopped P.A. Parenteau and Ryan O'Reilly to preserve the win.

McElhinney's Shutout Leads CBJ Past Wild, 4-0

Cam Atkinson, Nick Foligno, Boone Jenner and R.J. Umberger scored and Curtis McElhinney posted his first shutout since 2011 in leading the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 4-0 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Friday night. It was the Blue Jackets' second win in a row, the first time they've won back-to-back games since Oct. 25. They did it in their first game without last year's Vezina Trophy winner as the NHL's top goalie, Sergei Bobrovsky, who will miss the next month or so with a strained groin.

Wild Break Deadlock In 3rd, Beat Flyers 2-0

Jason Pominville and Charlie Coyle scored 57 seconds apart early in the third period to break open a defensive standoff and lift the Minnesota Wild to a 2-0 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday night. The teams had combined for only 28 shots when Pominville collected Mikko Koivu's pass in the crease and pushed it past a helpless Ray Emery 3:52 into the third period. On the ensuing shift, Coyle tapped a rebound off Jared Spurgeon's slap shot into an empty corner at 4:49.

O'Reilly Gets Shootout Goal And Avs Beat Wild 3-2

Ryan O'Reilly scored the only goal in the shootout, Semyon Varlamov stopped 35 shots and the Colorado Avalanche beat the Minnesota Wild 3-2 on Saturday night. Gabriel Landeskog and Nathan MacKinnon had a goal apiece to help the Avalanche sweep the home-and-home series with the Wild. John Mitchell added two assists for Colorado, which won a rare penalty-free game. Mikko Koivu and Matt Cooke scored goals and Josh Harding stopped 23 shots for the Wild.

Giguere Wins 6th Straight As Avs Beat Wild

Gabriel Landeskog had a goal and two assists, Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 27 saves to set a franchise record with his sixth straight win to start a season, and the Colorado Avalanche beat the Minnesota Wild 3-1 on Friday. Jan Hejda and Nathan MacKinnon also scored for the Avs, who won for the fourth time in their past five games. Dany Heatley scored his fourth goal in six games for Minnesota and Zach Parise returned ahead of schedule from a foot injury. Parise — Minnesota's leading scorer — was supposed to be out 2 to 3 weeks after blocking a shot with his left foot on Monday, but skated during warmups and felt good enough to play.

Man's Teammates Save His Life After Heart Stops In Hockey Game

A Minnesota father says he owes his life to his friends after his heart stopped during a pick-up hockey game. In September, 57-year-old Scott Rodriguez of Roseville collapsed and stopped breathing while playing hockey at the Richfield Ice Arena.

Steen Scores 2 In Blues' 3-0 Win Over Wild

Alexander Steen scored twice, and Jaroslav Halak made 22 saves to lead the St. Louis Blues to a 3-0 win over the Minnesota Wild on Monday. Steen has 19 goals this season, one behind Washington's Alex Ovechkin for the NHL lead. Vladimir Sobotka also scored for the Blues, who are 9-1-1 in their last 11 and 12-2-1 in the last 15. They have won six straight against Minnesota by a combined 20-7. The Wild were shut out for the first time this season and lost only their second game in the last eight. Minnesota (15-6-4) is still off to its best start with 34 points in its first 25 games.

Wild Edge Jets In Shootout 3-2

Charlie Coyle scored in the fourth round of the shootout to give the Minnesota Wild a 3-2 victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday. Coyle deked before beating Jets goalie Ondrej Pavelec. Minnesota is 15-5-4 and has won six of its past seven games and is 9-1-1 in November. The loss extended Winnipeg's losing streak to four games (0-2-2). It was the Jets' eighth shootout of the season and third loss. Mikko Koivu also scored on Pavelec in the shootout. Bryan Little beat Niklas Backstrom.
