Firefighters used ladder pipes and large hand lines to get control of the flames and kept it from spreading to a nearby collection of approximately 3,500 square feet of buildings built in the late 1940s.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
A call to 911 saying there was an active shooter Thursday was deemed to be not a credible threat, according to the Monrovia Police Department. Nearby Monroe was also placed on lockdown.
The fire broke out around 6:40 a.m. Thursday.
The fire has spread to at least three businesses in the strip mall.
Police are investigating the shooting of a suspect by Los Angeles Police Department officers in Wilmington, LAPD said.
Families dropping off students at nearby Loma Vista Elementary School were advised to use Prospect Avenue.
