Officers were called to the 1200 block of California Lane around 4:29 a.m after a reported shooting.
Officials said, at about 4 a.m., an officer who was traveling westbound along I-30 near the Arlington and Grand Prairie line spotted a disabled vehicle in the main lanes.
The case gained attention last year after Arlington PD said UT-Arlington criminology students helped ID the suspect.
Police said the suspect admitted to shooting his grandmother inside her apartment and then dragging her body to the patio.
