On May 29th the Sacramento Tree Foundation held the annual Tree Hero Awards. The dinner was held beneath the verdant, heritage 300 year old native oak grove at the California Farm Bureau hosted 250 attendees, including leaders of Sacramento's most influential businesses, national and state elected officials, and tree lovers from around the region. With more than 750 people in attendance and $192,000 raised, the Salvation Army's Annual Community Luncheon was a big success, on May 28th. This year, SMUD received the "Spirit of Caring" award at the McClellan Conference center for its commitment to improving the Sacramento area. On May 23rd, The Asian Pacific American Advocates (OCA) held the sold-out annual Dinner and Awards at the Double Tree by Hilton. The Dragon Boat Festival Celebration is a gathering of Sacamento's Chinese-American and many Ethic groups in the community to celebrate the traditional Double Fifth summer solstice holiday. The festival serves as a chance to showcase the community's talents through music and dance performances. Additionally, the festival hosts an awards ceremony for young winners of its annual writing competition as well as distinguished local leaders and organizations that have contributed to the community's development.
