The victim was taken to Weiss Memorial Hospital before being transferred to Illinois Masonic in serious condition.
"I saw a little blood on the axe, and he was smiling. He was smiling and walking with the axe like this and eating a cookie," a man outside said.
The man was apprehended after he was spotted near the scene sometime after the attack at the McDonald's on Western Avenue on the Southwest Side. Shardaa Gray reports.
