A group of thieves carried out a brazen smash-and-grab robbery at the Mag Mile Rolex store in the middle of Friday afternoon.

The crime just after 6 a.m. at the Foot Locker in the 3300 block of South Martin Luther King Drive in the Douglas neighborhood.

Four thieves smashed into the jewelry store in The Maxwell complex at 1010 S. Canal St., and bused blunt objects to break the glass containers.
The incidents happened within an hour on the Southwest and Northwest Sides.
Police said officers responded to a burglar alarm just before 2 a.m. at the store at State and Monroe.
While there were customers and employees inside the store at the time, no one was harmed.
The jeweler estimated that $300,000 in merchandise was lost.
Chicago police said just after 5:30 a.m., three or four men broke the front glass door of a Prada store at 30 E. Oak St.
Just before 4:30 a.m., three people crashed a red sedan, possibly a Dodge Charger, into the side of the Cash America Jewelry & Loan at 4558 S. Cicero Ave.
More than 40 protective bollards will be set up on the designated stretch of the Mag Mile.
This crash-and-grab burglary is similar to many other recent crimes that are part of a trend in Chicago.
Police aren't officially saying these burglaries are believed to be connected yet, only saying they are investigating.
The burglary took place at Ford City Mall, in the West Lawn neighborhood, around 4:30 a.m. on Monday.
They said an unknown number of offenders crashed a light-colored SUV into a business, made entry, and removed two cash registers and other property from within.
At least two people were in custody Friday night in connection with the crimes, which were committed in broad daylight.
Police said the violent and bold manner in which the smash-and-grab was conducted is not at all common for the area.

The store, known for selling men's apparel, was targeted in the past, with the latest attempt happening less than a day ago, according to a nearby business owner.
Chicago police say an unidentified male drove a white Jeep into the front doors of the store but was unable to gain entry.
The store's security guard said a Jeep SUV crashed through it. Afterward, five or six burglars from two other cars jumped out and made multiple trips in and out of the store to steal things – happening in about five minutes.
