Esmeralda E. Vargas, 18, was charged with one felony count of disorderly conduct.
The threat involved Fremont Middle School in unincorporated Mundelein.
Lake County investigators said the threat happened on a school bus after class Wednesday, when a preteen student reportedly told classmates there would be violence at the school the following day. Sara Machi reports.

Police and Kirby School District 140 investigated the incident and identified the boy.
A 14-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy were charged with felony intimidation.
The youngsters are being detained at the Porter County Juvenile Detention Center, police said. Police did not specify their ages.
While not credible, the threats still come with big punishments for the students.
Investigation revealed it happened on the social media app Snapchat in a group chat used for students who are current freshmen at the school.
