Omotayo Kassim, 34, was charged with attempted murder, and aggravated discharge of a firearm from an occupied vehicle.
According to the Chicago Fire Department, the firefighter was shot multiple times around 5:30 a.m.
"That elder is now dead because of your mistake and now the taxpayers will pay for it. and you'll collect a pension that we are going to pay for."
The fire was struck out minutes later with crews chasing hot spots.
The Chicago Fire Department responded to the scene near Mount Clare and Diversey avenues before 5 a.m.
Crews were on the scene around 5:30 a.m. at 119th Street and Eggleston Avenue.
They believed the homes were vacant until the woman was found during a search.
Chicago Fire Department officials said a person in their 70s was pulled out of a burning home in the 5900 block of South Elizabeth Street.
