The 49ers and Seahawks met Sunday night, and for the second straight meeting, the Seattle defense was the difference. This game featured the two top dogs of the NFC West, and the Seahawks sent a message not only to the defending division winner, but one to the entire NFL.
It's only Week 2, and as to be expected injuries are not going to determine the outcome of the game between the 49ers and Seahawks. While Seattle might be shorthanded in the secondary they still have plenty of bodies ready to go, and the winner of this game will be the team that plays better, not the one that is healthier going into the game.
The 49ers had two big holes to fill this offseason, with the departure of Dashon Goldson and the release of David Akers. It would be impossible to have any sustained success with question marks at both positions, but after the Week 1 performances of Phil Dawson and Eric Reid, it appears that the 49ers have found a short-term replacement for Akers, and long-term answer for Goldson.
