The crime just after 6 a.m. at the Foot Locker in the 3300 block of South Martin Luther King Drive in the Douglas neighborhood.
CBS News Chicago learned that the store had been targeted twice in the last two months.
Four thieves smashed into the jewelry store in The Maxwell complex at 1010 S. Canal St., and bused blunt objects to break the glass containers.
The incidents happened within an hour on the Southwest and Northwest Sides.
Police said officers responded to a burglar alarm just before 2 a.m. at the store at State and Monroe.
While there were customers and employees inside the store at the time, no one was harmed.
The jeweler estimated that $300,000 in merchandise was lost.
Chicago police said just after 5:30 a.m., three or four men broke the front glass door of a Prada store at 30 E. Oak St.
Just before 4:30 a.m., three people crashed a red sedan, possibly a Dodge Charger, into the side of the Cash America Jewelry & Loan at 4558 S. Cicero Ave.

This crash-and-grab burglary is similar to many other recent crimes that are part of a trend in Chicago.
Police aren't officially saying these burglaries are believed to be connected yet, only saying they are investigating.
