The Maryland Zoo, located in Baltimore, is turning 150 years old, making it one of the oldest in the U.S. In the 1860s, Baltimore residents began donating animals to the caretaker of Druid Hill Park. By 1880, the zoo had 300 animals. In 1920, children collected pennies to help the zoo buy its first elephant, and in 1940, the zoo moved reptiles into the former aquarium.
