First responders were called to a pond off Grand Peninsula Drive around 12:15 p.m.
"Our hearts go out to the athlete's family, friends, and the entire CrossFit community," Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker said.
The CrossFit Games in Fort Worth continued on Friday, starting with a tribute to an athlete who drowned in Marine Creek Lake.
The Army Corps of Engineers stopped releasing water from the lake to help crews in their search.
According to the Fire Department, after jumping into the river, the man never resurfaced.
