"We have several bridges in the metro area that have anti-icing systems on them," said MnDOT Communications Director Kevin Gutknecht. Prosecutors charged a central Minnesota man with a gross misdemeanor Wednesday but not a hate crime for allegedly having his teenage son dump bloody deer carcasses on the hoods of two cars owned by Somali Minnesotans. State officials say a police officer shot and killed a man who had grabbed another man standing on a sidewalk in northeastern Minnesota. The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension on Wednesday identified the man who was killed as 41-year-old J. Scot Alan Widmark of Virginia, Minnesota. The BCA says shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday, a woman called 911 to report that Widmark approached her car and demanded she get out.
Minneapolis officials are stepping up efforts to get residents to leave a large homeless camp as cold weather sets in. Crews from the Minneapolis Fire Department set up a heated army tent Wednesday across the street from the encampment. Authorities have made an arrest in an apparent hunting accident that killed a former police chief in northwestern Minnesota earlier this month. The Becker County Sheriff's Office and White Earth Tribal police arrested a 54-year-old rural Ogema man in the Nov. 10 shooting death of 53-year-old Jay Clayton Nelson.
