Northlake police said several fire agencies were called to the home near West Drive and Hillside Avenue.
Later Wednesday night, everyone was safe. Crews were working to identify the substance.
The hazmat response came after a maintenance worker poured a substance down a drain. No injuries were reported.
Marie Saavedra spent the afternoon at West Leyden High School, where she talked a star of the football team, the cheerleaders, and drum major from the marching band. Marie also ran through an eagle on a football field, and learned about the Leyden community’s annual Make a Difference Day and the Teatro Leyden Program.
The winner, who wants to remain anonymous, said he kept the win a secret but felt his life change immediately.
