Despite horrific crime scenes like the deadly mass shooting in River North last week, violent crime is down in Chicago compared to last year. CBS News Chicago's Sabrina Franza sat down with Police Supt. Larry Snelling to help explain why.
"That officer is in a very, very tough place; unimaginable what that officer has to be feeling right now," Chicago Police Supt. Larry Snelling said.
Chakib Mansour Khodja, 36, faces multiple charges, including sexual assault with a weapon and aggravated kidnapping.

Protesters are already planning to be near the United Center during the convention.
"I'll be totally honest. It's not a job that I always wanted," Snelling said. But he insisted he didn't have to be talked into taking the job.
The final vote was 48-0, with two City Council members not present for the vote.
With approval from a committee, the full City Council is expected to hold a vote on his appointment next Wednesday.
The majority of questions centered around how, if confirmed, Snelling will lead the department, and combat and solve crimes.
Mayor Brandon Johnson chose Snelling for the role last month.
