Across Chicago, people are stepping outside to find coyotes roaming down sidewalks and sniffing around on back porches.
The Illinois Conservation Police, along with the Chicago Police Department, spoke with witnesses, reviewed video, and found the coyote's carcass after it had been shot on the railroad tracks with a bow and then stomped.
The incident happened just before 4 p.m. on Jan. 11 in the 10600 block of South Sacramento Avenue. The animal was found dead on private property and was removed.
Customers gasped as officers made several attempts to yank the coyote out of the shelf, finally pulling the animal out by its tail.
United Airlines told CBS News Chicago Tuesday that on Sunday morning, flight 1727 was about to take off when its landing gear struck a coyote.
Coyote mating season is in progress from January through March, and coyotes are now more visible as they search for mates and establish territory. Marissa Sulek reports.

Yell, clap hands, and use a whistle or air horn to scare them off.
They said they take his care very seriously, after calls from animal activists last year to move him to a sanctuary in Colorado.
Make sure to keep dogs on a leash, and cats indoors. Coyote mating season typically runs through May.
With reports up, we asked the city's expert why.
"These guys are really nomadic right now. And they're going to be on the move until they can find a vacant spot."
