Police say the man walked onto the elevated tracks at Sheridan and then southbound on the tracks all the way to the Addison Red Line station.
More than 800 drivers have been hired this year, and the the hiring will continue into next year.
Police said the offenders approached the victim before beating and choking him, taking his personal belongings, and fleeing the scene.

Police said the 21-year-old then stabbed the other woman in the head and arm with something sharp.
The victim was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.
